About

London Spine Specialists at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth in London is a world leading facility housing the finest technology, nurses and consultants, setting the highest standards for investigation and treatment of all spinal disorders.

Many people suffer from pain associated with the spine including back, leg, neck, and shoulder pain. Common causes of such pain include sciatica, slipped discs, whiplash, and cervical spine disorders. In the majority of cases surgery is not necessary.

Using innovative techniques, cutting-edge research and evidence-based medicine, we offer treatment for acute spinal disorders and chronic back and neck pain with the latest targeted injection therapies and minimally invasive surgical techniques for patients of all ages.

Patients receive ultimate standards of care in our custom designed unit. We understand how worrying and debilitating back pain is, especially when the cause is unknown, and our service is designed to ease and support patients through every stage of diagnosis and treatment.

In 2017, the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth became the first private hospital in the UK to install the Toshiba Aquilion ONE Genesis Edition CT Scanner.

CT scanner

Advanced Imaging Technology

London Spine Specialists offers patients the very best in modern imaging with the latest 3 Tesla MRI scanner.  This scanner offers the clearest images available, while patients benefit from shorter examination times and a more spacious scanner.

Our team also has access to the latest 3T Siemens Skyra MRI scanner working alongside our 1.5T scanner. The Skyra is compact in design and has a flared, open-ended bore to ease the feeling of confinement often found in other high field strength scanners. There is increased space around the patient during the scan and the shorter machine allows the patient’s head to remain outside the scanner during most scans.

Patients can rest assured that London Spine Specialists forms part of the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth which has become the first private hospital in the UK to install the Toshiba Aquilion ONE Genesis Edition CT Scanner. Our Genesis CT Scanner is able to generate the best possible image quality with the lowest radiation dose of any CT scanner available today.

The Genesis CT Scanner possesses ground breaking collimation technology, which allows the scanner to be used in a similar way to a conventional X-ray machine. The laser area finder allows Radiographers to set up for an orthopaedic scan without the patient lying down on the table, this allows for a faster and more relaxed patient experience.  The area finder also enables a reduction in radiation dose as the traditional two ‘scanograms’ are not required with this technique.

Assessment

Assessment & Diagnosis

At your initial appointment investigations such as X-ray and MRI scans are carried out to identify the problem and an individual management plan is then developed for each patient.

During your consultation, we will conduct a thorough evaluation and discuss possible treatment options for your problem. We are committed to providing our patients with the very best treatment, through both non-surgical and surgical procedures.

Depending on diagnosis, surgery is not always necessary. We offer physical therapies, spinal injections as well as the most up to date surgical procedures to bring rapid relief of pain and return to normal function. Following treatment, patients receive a comprehensive clinical re-evaluation and further treatment or rehabilitation will be planned. Correspondence is sent by post or email to both the patient and referring physician. The full plan is organised by The Spine Unit Coordinator and we are proud of our greater than 95% success rates in the treatment of back and neck related problems.

We pride ourselves on being able to offer the least invasive forms of treatment with the quickest recovery times. Our key objective is to identify your problem early so that minimal intervention is required and problems are prevented from progressing to surgery.

Of course, some patients will require surgery, and we offer the very latest evidence based procedures, including major reconstructive surgery, conducted by surgeons at the very top of their field. Our dynamic procedures and solutions include spinal fusion, disc replacement surgery, spinal injections and minimally invasive keyhole surgery.
